In the fall of 2008 I tried to study English at the University of Bergen. I say tried because it was really hard, do I really need to know phonetics and sosiolingustics?!
We were well over a couple of hundred students in the class. Who would have thought that the year I decided to study English two of the girls in my class were artists. One of them was Nathalie Nordnes, who actually gave out an album that year, sadly it was not a big hit. The other girl is playing at Pavilion Junior this year; Susanne Sundfør.
I never knew her, but I remember that she was good in answering questions and asking them whenever we had group sessions in literature. She was smart (unlike me, I admit).
When I first heard about 'The Brothel' I got kind of curious. After reading all these great reviews of how she mesmerized the audience at By:larm this year, I had to check it out for myself.
The video is from when Susanne Sundfør was on the Norwegian tv-show Lydverket.
I actually love this song, especially the lyrics "I'll do it all, I'll do whatever you say, God has left me anyway". She sings with feelings, it's powerful and it just grabs a hold on you.
Now I suddenly realize that I have become one of those who speaks such highly words about her. But I admit it, I'm proud of being one of those two hundred that studied with her in 2008. I can't wait to see her perform at Pavilion Junior. If it's anything like the video-clip from Lydverket, I know it will be an incredible experience.
