Talk: Cultivating Safer Spaces for Women of Colour, 13:00, Flokkr

In the pursuit of equal opportunities for all, marginalized voices, particularly those of queer women of color, often remain silenced and overlooked. We must work collectively to uplift and cultivate those voices and give space for environments where they can thrive.

For the next two years, Roskilde Festival is collaborating with the critically acclaimed Nairobi-based The Nest Collective. At this panel conversation, 'Cultivating Safer Spaces For Women of Color,' they bring their party concept, Strictly Silk, featuring their longtime collaborators DJ IV, DJ Miss Ray, and collective member Ziggie, alongside Copenhagen-based artist N.E.GIRL. The Danish-Somali activist Moeisha Ali Aden moderates the talk, which will be in English.

During the festival's First Days on Flokkr they will share insights and experiences on fostering inclusive and safe spaces for women of color, trans women, and non-binary individuals. They will discuss how to advance equality in music and art, focusing on queer communities of color.

After the panel conversation, DJ IV, DJ Miss Ray, and Ziggie invite you to dance on Flokkr at a DJ set inspired by electronic sounds from the African continent.

During the Final Days, you can also experience DJ IV, DJ Miss Ray, and Ziggie as resident DJs at the Apollo stage.

Furthermore, they will participate in a panel on RE:ACT stage.

Strictly Silk is a dance party and multimedia space that centers joy, safety, and community for women and people of marginalized genders (trans and non-binary persons) of all origins, faiths, and generations. Furthermore, Strictly Silk offers a platform for DJs, performers, arts, culture, and events producers.

Esther Kakai, aka N.E.GIRL, is a Nairobi-born, London-raised, and Copenhagen-based DJ and promoter. Her cultural background is reflected in her work, where she uses her personal experience to promote access for minorities at Another Life – a non-profit organization that works for better representation and improved conditions for marginalized groups and women in Danish music and cultural life.

Moeisha Ali Aden is a Danish-Somali performer, debater, activist, and lecturer. She has made a rule-breaking performance about being a Muslim transwoman and a minority within the minority.
