The Kenyan award-winning performance artist Wanjiku is, specifically for this year's Roskilde Festival, making the live participatory performance 'Back to the Roots', reconnecting and rejoicing in the essence of our shared planet and humanity.

Wanjiku invites you to a transformative experience when she unveils the colonial legacy that pushed indigenous crops aside and replaced them with "cash crops" for export. Together you will reclaim their indigenous names, unraveling a shared path towards healing and growth.

Stand united with Wanjiku and witness the decolonization of these once shamed crops as they reclaim their place on our plates and in our hearts. Together we rediscover the beauty of indigenous superfoods, restoring them to their rightful place of significance.

Experience the captivating performance 'Back to the Roots' at Food Is Now, a celebration of healing and planting.

Wanjiku is an award-winning performance artist and ritual activist from Kenya. She has been taught the old pre-colonial seed and harvest blessing rituals from women in Mukambani, Kenya. Wanjiku travels and performs extensively on the African continent. She is based in Denmark.

‘Back to the Roots’ is made in collaboration with sound designer and composer Stéphane Rombi (FR), choreographer and director Vibeke Muasya (DK), and producer Benjamin Muasya (DK/KE) from Mother Tree.

In collaboration with OpEN – Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Public Engagement Funding Pool.
