The Palestinian musicians of 47Soul have been creating ecstatic dance parties around the world since they came together in Jordan over a decade ago to create their very own pan-Arab electronic hybrid genre.

They dubbed the style Shamstep, which took the traditional folk music genre dabke and the popular Arabic dance music shaabi and mixed them with edgy electronica, hip hop and dubstep. In doing so, 47Soul also created the sound of a modern Arabic party music with a strong awareness of traditions, but also with a message of moving into the future with hope, political resistance and dance, inspired by the dabke genre, which has historically served as both party and protest music.

Shamstep was also the title of their debut EP from 2015, which taught the world to dance to the band's groundbreaking style, where raw beats and psychedelic-sounding synths clash with catchy melodies and hypnotic grooves. Roskilde Festival also got its shamstep baptism in 2017 with a wild party.

The 2020 album Semitics continues the group's dedication to combining ecstatic celebration, political awareness and a message of freedom and dignity for all people. Rarely has their message seemed more needed than in 2024, when we look forward to bringing them back to Roskilde.
