Ancient ceremonial music and deep traditions are brought to life and lifted into the future by the extraordinary South Korean duo Haepaary. The two musicians Choi Hyewon and Park Minhee both immersed themselves in Korean traditions and classical music growing up. In their mutual project Haepaary, they gleefully draw from the rich library of traditional music without being constrained by dogma.

Here, futuristic electronic music and soaring dreampop blend with ceremonial court music from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897), just like Hyewon and Minhee delve into the ancient vocal genre Namchang Gagok, which has traditionally been reserved for men. Unfolding traditions while challenging conventions, the meeting of classical vocal music, ancient ceremonies and striking electronic explorations creates a deeply original expression.

That expression has led to a Korean Music Award for Best Electronic Album in 2022, and the duo's blend of tradition and futurism has also impressed at a number of international festivals such as SXSW and WOMEX, where they have shown that you can easily create a dance party and rave atmosphere based on music that is hundreds of years old.

Live, Haepaary is known for creating an atmospheric and captivating show that, together with their unique vocals and original musical hybrid, will undoubtedly lead to a magical concert experience at Roskilde.
