Humazapas is much more than a band. Rather, it is a collective that unfolds the deep cultural roots of the Kichwa people through a total experience of dance, music, ritual magic and documentation of traditions.

The story of the collective's birth is remarkable in itself. Humazapas was founded in 2010 by twelve teenagers from the Kichwa community (an indiguenous people connected with the Ecuadorian Andes) who gathered at the foot of the volcanoes Tayta Imbabura and Mama Cutakachi to salvage their ancestral traditions.

The meeting led to an intense immersion in the language, culture, rituals, music and dance of the Kichwa people, which converge in the artistic collective that Humazapas has evolved into. Eight musicians and four dancers unfold a cosmic vision of humanity's connection to the earth, animals, spirits and ancestors, but through their audiovisual performances, they also show tradition as a dynamic entity, a standpoint in a modern world that Humazapas' art very much speaks to with discussions about the preservation of indigenous cultures and the fragile nature on which the human community is so dependent.

Over ten years of immersion and work with tradition lies behind the debut album Sara Mama, finally released in 2023. A deeply fascinating journey into lush and spiritual musical territories that Humazapas unfolds throughout their visionary and uplifting universe of music and dance when they visit Denmark for the first time!
