Lowkey Superstar was the title of American rapper Kari Faux's 2020 mixtape. A telling title for an artist who combines flamboyant swagger with minimalist grooves and down-to-earth lyrics.

Kari Faux grew up in Arkansas but entered the hip-hop scene in Los Angeles. She recently moved back home and then further to Houston, Texas, which became a source of inspiration for her acclaimed 2023 album Real B*tches Don't Die! An album that eclectically delves into Southern rap with hints of psychedelic sou, funk and R&B.

With the help of producer Phoelix (also known from his collaboration with Noname), Kari Faux creates a soundscape that is at once deeply personal, conscious of it’s roots and downright funky.

With her lo-fi aesthetic, authentic nerve and southern twang, Kari Faux is also capable of delivering a terrific concert experience at eye level with the audience. As she has said in an interview, she aims to create a sense of a shared party with the audience, where everyone hangs out with each other.
