Since their founding in Mali 10 years ago, Les Amazones d'Afrique has evolved into a source of bubbling creativity, soulful music and social protest, and a collective that is setting new agendas for female musicians in Africa and the African diaspora.

Led by prominent African stars and activists Mamani Keïta, Oumou Sangaré and Mariam Doumbia, Les Amazones d'Afrique set out with a clear mission to give voice and rights to African women, create a better gender balance in the cultural sphere and end violence against women.

The social message is driven by strong vocal harmonies and infectious pan-African music that draws on traditional music forms, African pop and electronic rhythms inspired by the Congotronix movement. At the same time, Les Amazones d'Afrique is a platform that binds generations together, where younger singers are accompanied by legendary artists such as Angélique Kidjo and the three iconic founders.

After releasing two acclaimed albums with producer Doctor L, the collective has just released a new album, Musow Danse, with the help of producer Jacknife Lee (U2, Modest Mouse, Taylor Swift). The album draws inspiration from modern hip-hop and trap, which together with synth layers and 808 drum machines create a raw, infectious, and danceable backdrop for the powerful voices. Les Amazones d'Afrique were meant to perform at Roskilde in 2020, so it is with great pleasure that we finally get to see them in Denmark this summer.
