Guatemalan cellist and vocalist combines raw improv and dreamy chamber music

With the cello as a fundament, Mabe Fratti creates distinctive and beautiful sound worlds that alternate between dreamy ambient and the dramatic musical eruptions.

Originally from Guatemala, this distinctive musician has long been part of Mexico City's experimental music scene, collaborating with a wide range of musicians and releasing several strong releases under her own name, as well as recently launching both the duo Titanic and the musical collective Amor Muere.

Her first solo album, Pies Sobre la Tierra, was released in 2019, and in 2022 she released the acclaimed album Se Ve Desde Aquí. The album was awarded Best New Music by Pitchfork, who praised Fratti's ability to combine beautiful, vocal-driven songs with dreamy ambient, free jazz and bubbling analog synths, drawing comparisons to both Arthur Russell and Kate Bush.

Big words, but they didn’t stand alone, as the album has received rave reviews across the board and shows an artist who can move from chamber music fragility to raw and expressive improvisation, and from the nakedly acoustic to wild electronic explorations. We are thrilled to experience this when she visits Roskilde Festival's Platform stage with her adventurous cello playing, her beautiful vocals and her brilliant band.
