MIJA MILOVIC^DK

Danish/Montenegrin singer-songwriter Mija Milovic has been a central figure in Copenhagen's alternative music scene for several years as a member of projects such as SAV, Kvindebandet, Tidlige Armbånd, SLIM0 and many more. 

With a background in theater and performance art and an immersion in improvisational music and alternative notation, her approach to songwriting is unorthodox, which is also very much reflected in her music under her own name. In 2020 she released the album with shadowfax on my back, followed in 2023 by the masterful still life, released on Escho. 

The album shows an artist moving from chamber music excursions and acoustic ballads to grunge, prog rock and psychedelic folk, often within the same song. Out of the sometimes almost labyrinthine movements that the songs take, a belief in music as a space for transformation and liberation grows. It's not only musical genres that are deconstructed, but also the structures that keep us stuck as humans are dismantled to create space for new communities and utopias.
