Chicago rapper Noname has emerged as a strong and personal voice in the modern hip-hop scene. With lyrical edge, jazzy rhythms, and soul-inspired vibes, she tackles issues like capitalism and racism in songs that are intelligent, poetic and angry.

Noname grew up listening to her grandmother's records of blues singers like Howlin' Wolf and Buddy Guy, but also cites Nina Simone, Missy Elliott, and Andre 3000 as inspirations. She is also influenced by literature and the poetry slam community. In Chicago's creative community, she met Chance The Rapper, and it was through his mixtape Acid Rap that she really broke through as a rapper in 2013.

When she released her own mixtape Telephone in 2016, Rolling Stone named her one of the most interesting young artists of the moment. It wasn't empty words. When her debut album Room 25 was released in 2018, its blend of cosmic jazz, neo-soul, hip-hop and powerful lyrics was widely praised, and the album landed high on numerous best albums lists.

After a lengthy album hiatus, she finally returned in 2023 with the new album Sundial, showing that she has retained all her raw power, poetry, and political edge. Live, the poignant lyricism is delivered with a sharp flow over jazz and soul-inspired grooves from her superb band.
