With one foot in electronic dance music and West African pop, and the other in radical sound experiments and a very personal use of the voice, Ghanaian/French producer and vocalist PÖ unfolds a vast and versatile artistic universe and a multilayered embrace of modern African identity.

PÖ – aka Pauline Bedarida – has long been associated with the Afrofuturist collective Nyege Nyege, and as a DJ she has created epic afro-raves, among other places at Roskilde Festival in 2022. But that she also has a darker, introspective and experimental side as an artist was made clear on her sensational debut album Cociage, released in 2023 on the forward-thinking Kampala-based label Hakuna Kulala.

The album is an impressive showcase of her stunning voice and dazzling creativity, with electronic soundscapes that mutate her voice in a multitude of directions, from hard-edged noise rap and industrial beats to West African pop and folk passages, ambient and psychedelic new age music.

With Cociage, PÖ marks himself as both a radical and innovative voice on the African music scene. An artist who, in the meeting of vocals and electronics, creates space for melancholy, contemplation and noise-punk confrontations, and who, through a web of references, creates a portrait of a complex personality. PÖ's expressive voice and visionary universe could very well be one of Roskilde Festival's biggest revelations.
