Marginalized voices brought to life in eclectic mix of country, blues and jazz

Using folk music as a medium, American singer Rhiannon Giddens brings forgotten and marginalized voices to life and makes deep musical roots resonate in the present.

In projects such as Carolina Chocolate Drops and Songs of Our Native Daughters, she has contributed significantly to redefining the narrative of American folk and country as a predominantly white music by making room for African-American voices. Since her critically acclaimed debut solo album Tomorrow Is My Turn, released in 2015 on Nonesuch, she has increasingly emerged as a strong solo artist, intertwining American country, folk and blues with elements of jazz, Celtic folk and the classical music that she is also steeped in as a trained opera singer.

She has collaborated with artists as diverse as Kronos Quartet and Jason Isbell, been a guest on Dolly Parton's podcast "America" and won numerous awards. Live, you can't help but be captivated by her deep musicality, embracing both folk banjo and fiddle and stunningly beautiful vocals.

Rhiannon Giddens is a rare visitor to Danish stages, so it's with great pride we get to welcome this compelling voice, who recently released the fantastic album You're The One, to Roskilde Festival.
