"How Music Makes You Feel Better" sounds the title of one of the songs on Peruvian musician and DJ Sofia Kourtesis' debut album, "Madres", which became a major sensation on the electronic music scene in 2023. And if there's one thing Kourtesis knows how to do, it's to create immersive music that transforms and uplifts you with euphoric dance rhythms, sensual melodies, and imaginative compositions.

Kourtesis now lives in Berlin, a city she moved to in part to escape the homophobia she experienced in her hometown as a queer person. Listening to her music, you can also hear a tribute to Berlin's legendary clubs in the heavy bass and techno-infused rhythms. But her songs also draw on her musical roots, in the musical structures as well as sampling chants from anti-homophobic demonstrations in Peru.

"Madres", which was released on Ninja Tune to ecstatic reviews, is also an explicit tribute to her mother, who was suffering from cancer at the time of the album's creation. The album is likewise dedicated to a Berlin neurosurgeon who helped her mother and whom Kourtesis subsequently invited to the mythic and iconic Berghain club as a sign of gratitude.

Kourtesis' music encompasses both complex personal emotions and celebrates human communities – both the close community of family and friends, and the larger community on the dance floor or at the protest march. Join the community when she visits Roskilde and experience healing dance music that stimulates the brain, heart, and body.
