Sonic rituals and mind-blowing creativity from visionary percussionist

Italian percussionist and composer Valentine Magaletti has fascinated audiences with her innovative and ritualistic approach to percussion since she made a name for herself with the duo Tomaga, which tragically ended when fellow musician Tom Relleen passed away in 2020.

However, Magaletti has certainly carried the creative torch in a multitude of contexts. She has collaborated with artists such as Jandek, Thurston Moore, Bat for Lashes and Kamasi Washington, as well as being a driving force in the art pop band Vanishing Twin and taking part in Irmin Schmidt's The Can Project, carrying on the legacy of krautrock band Can. Her resume ranges from jazz and psychedelia to avant-garde and electronic experimentation.

In her solo projects, you'll find a consistent interest in texture combined with ritual moods, avant-garde strategies and queer identity, expressed on recent releases such as Batterie Fragile and A Queer Anthology of Drums. Albums that showcase a true visionary artist who constantly seeks new connections through collages of drones, field recordings and percussion.

In 2023, she launched her own label, Permanent Draft, dedicated to female artists, and Magaletti continues to challenge convention unabashedly. A rarely versatile musician whose ritual and trance-creating percussion we look forward to experiencing on Roskilde's Platform stage.
