Being at Roskilde Festival is an invitation to expand your musical horizons, and with WaqWaq Kingdom, you get your money's worth!

The Japanese duo, consisting of Kiki Hitomi (from King Midas Sound and Dokkebi Q) and Shigeru Ishihara (known from the post-rock band Seefeel and under the danceable alias DJ Scotch Egg), truly sound like nothing else. They call their genre "minyo footwork", a hybrid of the highly energetic Chicago house sub-genre footwork and the traditional Japanese worker songs known as minyo. If that didn’t sound spectacular enough on its own, you can add a penchant for African polyrhythms, frenetic 8-bit techno, Jamaican dancehall, and all sorts of wild sound experiments. A mindboggling recipe for an entertaining, surprising and sublime musical explosion.

You might also call it a very spicy musical hot pot. And indeed, the title of their latest album is Hot Pot Totto. The latter is derived from the Japanese word "ottotto", which, according to Hitomi, describes a state of barely regaining your balance after almost falling over.

You are advised to go to boot camp now, because there's a good chance you'll be put in this state when WaqWaq Kingdom unleash their blistering music on Roskilde Festival. You'll need a good sense of balance when you're hit by tracks like "Rip My EGO" and "Dopamine Dance", which with their wild beats, surreal soundscapes and equally bonkers visuals will have you dancing on the edge of collapse.
