onsdag 19.03.08 M.I.A. hits Roskilde FestivalShe is one of the hottest acts today and a trendsetting fashion icon, and her music is a melting pot of genres. M.I.A. (UK) mixes British grime hip hop with dancehall, Bollywood, Afro hip hop and The Pixies. Her music is dirty like a city pavement, and it has both Western and Oriental blood running through its system. The warrior girl has moved right up alongside male counterparts such as Wiley and Dizzee Rascal – and her latest album, Kala, has strengthened her position at the front line of global pop music. Roskilde Festival offers two extra Easter eggs. BURHAN G (DK) started out as a backing singer for the Danish group Outlandish – but it was soon clear that the angelic voice deserved its own spot in the limelight. Burhan G has the stage show, the voice and the songs for a great future on the international stages. Justin Timberlake soon needs to watch his back. MAJORS (DK) is a new hip hop ensemble consisting of DJ Noize, DJ Static, Nat Ill, J-Spliff and Negash Ali. Majors are releasing their debut album in April. The prognosis promises hard beats, detailed arrangements and English-language rap on a level rarely heard in Danish hip hop. | ![]() M.I.A. mixes British grime hip hop with dancehall, Bollywood, Afro hip hop and The Pixies - photo: Janette Beckman |
