Brazilian high from last place in Roskilde’s Naked Run

Edgar F. de Oliveira Jr. has come all the way from Brazil to Roskilde just because he wanted to participate in Naked Run. Not to win, but to celebrate nakedness.

”It felt like a trip up the red carpet at the Oscars. I was floating,” the 28-year old Brazilian realises after finishing last.

Edgar F. de Oliveira Jr. sees nakedness as the best way to be with others, to feel nature and the nature of others. That is why he joined the Naked Run.

Floating through the race
In spite of his competitive Brazilian headband, Edgar chooses to start the race from down in third row. It remains clear that he is not there to win. As the race progresses he falls farther behind, and already into the third round of the race, he is passed by several other runners.

Edgar remains unaffected. While he runs leisurely around the track, his eyes glow and his smile keeps expanding. He looks right and left, thoroughly absorbing everything going on around him.

Nakedness without the sex
Edgar believes that Scandinavians share a better understanding of nakedness than in his own country, where being naked is still considered bizarre. The run, to him, symbolizes the celebration of nakedness without focusing on sex, though some of the spectators kep staring at the dangling genitals.

”Most of the spectators didn’t look at our faces, of course, but that’s ok with me. Getting used to nakedness is a process, and it won’t dampen my spirits,” Edgar laughs.

Roskilde naked run is a must
The Brazilian was lured to Roskilde by the many pictures he has seen from the Festival. He actually felt called upon to go. There was no way he would miss out on the Naked Run.

The next step was to contact the festival in order to obtain a special one-day ticket. Event though Edgar is a nudist, Roskilde is his only stop on his travels in Europe, where he cultivates his nakedness.
