Water consumption greatly fluctuates between festival years. During the last five-year period (2013-2017) water usage was at its lowest in 2014, and its highest in 2015 – with a 20 % difference between those two years.
Due to these annual fluctuations, the reduction in one year’s water usage is compared to an average of the consumption from the three prior years. This is illustrated below.
In 2017 water usage dropped by 6,7 % compared to the average consumption in the period 2014-2016. In 2016 water usage was lower than the average consumption in the period 2013-2015.
To gain better insights into how and where water is actually used, Roskilde Festival has been working with DTU Students to test how intelligent water meters can be used to further reduce water usage.
While getting the festival guests to use less water is a great start, you still have to rehydrate, eat and (optionally) shower. Roskilde Festival is therefore also looking for ways to upgrade sanitation equipment to make more efficient use of water and reduce water usage at the festival.
