He is only 26 but Thanapat Thaothawong, better known as Thaiboy Digital, is an internet hip-hop veteran. After over six years in the music game, he has seen lot of action.
At the age of 18, the Swedish authorities deported him (he moved from Thailand to Sweden at the age of 8), to Thailand.
Ultimately, 10,000 kilometres’ distance couldn’t prevent him from making music with his friends in the collective Drain Gang, which includes producers Yung Sherman and Whitearmor and rappers Bladee and Ecco2K, as well as Yung Lean who has also invited him on tour on several occasions.
The album Legendary Member (2019) showcases Thaiboy’s development as a rapper. He drifts between relentless and repetitive flows and auto-tuned falsetto crooning, carving out a sound from a galaxy far away.
Thaiboy also makes his voice heard on Drain Gang’s collaborative effort Trash Island (he appears on seven out of eight tracks) which came out in late 2019 (listen here).
Thaiboy Digital finds inspirations all over the globe. In that way, his artistic presence calls for a world without borders.
