Danish artist makes sound illusions based on your own mind

Alexander Tillegreen primarily works in disciplines such as painting, text, performance and sound installation.

For Roskilde Festival 2019, Tillegreen creates a spacious installation where means like lighting, drawings and layers of sound from different origin are combined.

In listening to these sounds, you are invited to experience illusions based on your current state of mind, your own subconscious thoughts and feelings as well as your relationship with language.

In this way the so-called ‘phantom word illusions’ are able to mirror the mind and the fluidity of the individual personality while at the same time reflect the multi lingual aspects of both festival and the global society as such.

Alexander Tillegreen (b. 1991) studied at the Städelschule Art Academy in Frankfurt from 2011 to 2017. He has also studied at The Cooper Union School of Art in New York. Recently, he has initiated a research collaboration on auditory illusions with scientists at the Max Planck Institute of Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt which will conclude in an exhibition and a new artist in residency program this fall. Next year he will be doing a residency and exhibition in Beijing hosted by I:YProjects.

Alexander Tillegreen exhibits in Art Zone at Roskilde Festival 2019 as part of The Bikuben Foundation’s studio programme. Alexander Tillegreen is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
