UK rap is really booming these years! Flohio is an exciting name to watch out for. Her name has been on the lips of those ‘in the know’ for a while and she feels intrinsic to the future of British rap.
The 25-year-old rapper is attracting attention with her exquisitely fiery, fast-paced delivery, intelligent lyricism and tantalising choice of genre-blending production: thumping industrial techno meets metallic grime with the occasional trill of more traditional, clubby hip-hop. Her flow does a valiant job of tying all these threads together.
As part of south London’s TruLuvCru she always shouts out her home borough of Southwark, as demonstrated by the untouchable “SE16”, God Colony’s blog-busting single from 2016.
Now, Flohio is starting to spit out some banging tunes under her own name. Head over to your preferred streaming service and give “Wild Yout”, “10 More Rounds”, “Watchout” and “Bands” a listen. And prepare for some sudden jumping about.
This is powerful music, and it’s quickly resonating. Flohio recently played a sold-out headline show in Bermondsey where she grew up. In 2018, she was selected by Naomi Campbell for Vogue as one of “10 women changing our future”.
Come watch Flohio bring the house down at Roskilde 19 with her hard-hitting grime.
