There’s a certain necessity for Hjalmer to play under his first name. Everybody in Denmark knows his last name. He’s the son of the most popular singer ever in Denmark, the late Kim Larsen.
But let’s approach it this way: We know Hjalmer by his first name because any comparisons are unnecessary. He’s a talented pop singer and songwriter with stuff on his mind and dead-on catchy tunes in his growing catalogue.
I 2017, Hjalmer came out of nowhere. His debut single “Hjem til en anden” (‘home to another’) put his name on the map before the release of his first EP Skabt til at være ung (’made for being young’). As the title indicates, the 24-year-old writes songs about being young and all that it entails: late-night binges, sex, love and the occasional anxiety about suddenly being an adult.
His songs really hit the mark – and they appeal to both (gulp!) adults, teenagers and music lovers in general. If you love a sweet melody, you will definitely like Hjalmer!
The Danish singer’s calendar has been pretty busy. He has played lots of live gigs (several sold-out ones as well) with a great band, honing his stage presence. And of course, he’s also kept busy writing new songs. 2018 and 2019 saw the release of several new tunes, which will end up on a debut album, which should see the light of day in 2019.
Hjalmer is going places. Catch him on our Rising stage at Roskilde Festival 2019.
