Uplifting percussive dance music

The future is female!

From running the 2015 London Marathon on her period, free-bleeding the entire way, to writing an EP worth of electro music that decimates patriarchy, Indian-American producer and activist Kiran Gandhi proves personal is indeed the political.

Gandhi’s music under the moniker of Madame Gandhi is a mesh of complex lyricism and immersive fusion of electronic music and rap. With track titles that include “The Future is Female” and themes that circulate around feminism, love and politics, her EP Voices delivers a much-needed minimalistic-yet-textured take on today’s state of things.

Each song features Kiran’s drums (did we mention that she’s drummed for M.I.A.?), vocals and percussion, backed by the intricate electronic soundscapes.

In concert, she confidently moves back and forth across the stage, dancing, shaking her body to the beat, either one she has created herself through beatboxing and looping. It is catalysing to watch and listen to and definitely something you should not miss out on!

Madame Gandhi is also hosting a workshop and doing a talk on Saturday 6 July at 14 in Art Zone at Roskilde Festival.
