Atmospheric metal heroes back at Roskilde

Deftones were
a part of shifting metal’s aesthetics back in the 90s when they made a hard-hitting entrance in the music scene. They were caught in the tide of nu-metal but quickly worked their way beyond any pigeonholing of the time

Front man Chino Moreno and the rest of the band had different visions for their sound which took in experimental static, shoegaze sludge and metallic roars.

The venerable Sacramento quintet has never strayed from its artistic values or impeded its own undeniable urge to create visceral, romantic heavy musicDeftones exists in a bubble all of their own making, deserving reverence as a hardworking alt. metal band alongside acts like Tool and Faith No More.

The first time Deftones played outside of the US was at Roskilde Festival. That’s 24 years ago. The band has come a long way since then. And they have long since worked up a reputation as a stellar live act

Deftones has a vast versatility to play on. The band moves easily from bulldozing brutal to meditative and fragile by means of widescreen distortion and Chino Moreno’s unorthodox vocal melodies. Don’t be surprised if Moreno makes a journey into the mosh, grasping your hands and singing to your face. It’s all a part of Deftones’ intense live show.

When Deftones plays Roskilde 2020, it’ll be their sixth show here. And they’re bring new songs! The band is currently working on a new album, the follow-up to 2016’s Gore.
