The cat went mooo – and now her hip-pop is starting to win over everybody

Doja Cat has come a long way since her song “Mooo!” went viral in 2018.

After gaining wide attention from the cow-themed song, the rapper released a deluxe version of her debut album Amala, collaborated with fellow rapper Rico Nasty on the hit single “Tia Tamera” and saw the remix of her song “Juicy”, featuring Tyga, reach the Billboard Hot 100 – her first song to do so.

The 24-year-old artist has continued riding out her success with her second album, Hot Pink (2019), which snuck into the top 20 on the US album chart. If you think the title suggests something sexy and saucy, you are absolutely right. Doja Cat raps and sings about sexual desire and authority. Her lyrics are of the kind that would be beeped out constantly in more sensitive media because they are sexually... well, pretty explicit (look for yourself).

Versatility is Doja Cat’s strength. Her songs contain remarkable nods to grooves of the 70s, electronic pop of the 90s, and Noughties’ hip-hop.

The same thing goes for her vocal skills. Her tone can change from ultra-soft and chill or peppy, almost frantic as she fires off her verses. She’s equally able as a singer and a rapper – and her understanding of melody really makes her material shine.

According to NME, Doja Cat is “a pop contender with the nous and drive to go as far as she wants.”

Come catch this cat live at Roskilde Festival. Being in her company will be just purr-fect!
