He’s in the fast lane, the young popster Helmig. After a break from the music business, which saw him cancelling his show at Roskilde 2019, he is now back in the music scene. And it makes sense that he is invited back on the stage at Roskilde Festival.
He has stepped out of his father’s shadow (Thomas Helmig is a seasoned pop star in Denmark). Favoured with a charm, a voice and a musicality surpassing many of his peers, this Dane is busy winning all of Denmark over with his infectious pop music.
21-year-old Hugo Helmig made his debut in 2017 with the single "Please Don't Lie", which met all expectations when the track jumped straight to the top of the Danish chart and went on to become the most played Danish single on the radio that year. In 2018, Helmig followed up with the EP Promise which won the hearts of both critics and an ever-growing audience. In 2019, he released his debut album Juvenile, which one media called a ‘surprising, solid debut’.
His sound is full of pure pop oozing with soul feeling and lots of dance appeal. He strikes a bull’s eye, and his calendar looks busy these days!
This also means lots of concerts. He’s gone from a few jobs here and there to doing a full national tour with detours to Germany as well. Together with a superb backing band, Helmig delivers an infectious live experience where you get lots of singalongs, swaying arms and hand hearts. His stage presence is excellent and the songs are decidedly infectious.
