slim0 is a band you don't quite know how to pigeonhole. As disturbing or appealing as that may sound.
The Copenhagen-based quartet requires that you unfold your most curious ears. And the music they send towards you is of a very shapeshifting nature. One moment they perform Auto-Tuned a capella song, the next they dive into noise rock. Sometimes, they include a squalling saxophone solo. They also throw in exotic tones and drones in the mix.
slim0 consists of Lena Milovic, Mija Milovic, Joalane Mohapeloa and Simin Stine Ramezanali, who love to toy with their music.
The band's set-up shifts instrumentation, from live clay instruments made by visual artist Simin Stine Ramezanali to a more classic rock band setup.
The trio released the EP Sol i øjet (‘sun in the eye’) in 2020. It contains six diverse, adventurous songs that collectively sound as if their purpose was to make your head spin while at the same time enriching your musical compass. slim0 embraced the notion of a physical release by creating an extra dimension of art. Sol i øjet was produced as a sculptural porcelain sun with an embedded USB connector. The sun is made by Simin Stine Ramezanali.
2021 has offered up new songs from the quartet. And as is almost custom with this band, their music changes seamlessly from the beautifully harmonic over the nutty towards the aggressive. Always curiously blossoming.
If you want a little taste of things to come, then do press play on the video below. It’s recorded at the Copenhagen venue ALICE. Slim0 were supposed to play a release show there. But then everything shut down. Instead, they decided to record their concert.
