Warped electro pop for the end of the world

What happens when you take sweet, aching electro pop, pull it apart and piece it together again as an imaginary soundtrack for the end of the world? The answer is Soft As Snow.

Soft As Snow is a Norwegian-born and Berlin-based duo consisting of Oda Egjar Starheim and Øystein Monsen. Their project name fits their sound. It’s pillowy and caressing and yet ice-cold.

The duo push their sounds in adventurous directions, taking bits from electro pop and hyper pop (not that hyper) and adding texture, club vibes and a deep-blue melancholy.

When making their mix of menace and beauty, Soft As Snow avoid laptops in favour of analogue synths, drum machines and samplers, mixed with idiosyncratic vocals and heavily processed guitars.

The duo released their critically acclaimed debut album Deep Wave in 2018 on Houndstooth, and in 2022 they followed up with Bit Rot (out on Mexican label Infinite Machine), which speaks further into a rave-y darkness.
