Hear an amazing story about how old mobile phones can help save rainforests

Hear conservation technologist Topher White share his incredible story from wildlife enthusiast to rainforest defender. The title of his talk is Listening Leads to Change: How the Sound of our Living Planet Can Protect It.

His tech start-up Rainforest Connection (RFCx) uses old mobile phones strategically positioned in the rainforest canopy to detect illegal logging and poaching in some of the most at-risk areas in the world.

Deforestation is one of the main contributors to climate change and the extinction of endangered species. INTERPOL estimates 50-90 percent of rainforest logging is illegal.

Rainforest Connection is now in place in 22 countries over the world.

Topher White is an American engineer, physicist and inventor with a degree in Physics and is CEO of the Rainforest Connection. Winner of numerous awards inclusing 2015 National Geographic Emerging Explorer, and 2019 Rolex Awards Associate Laureate.
