Jersey club – born in Newark, shaped by Baltimore club and Chicago house – has streamed into the zeitgeist via TikTok and Fortnite dance crazes.
Its influential sound – uptempo beats, emphatic vocal chops and a meme-like compulsion to remix pop culture soundbites – can be heard worldwide.
For producer, DJ, dancer and party-thrower UNiiQU3 (real name Cherise Gary), it’s the sound of home.
When she was in high school, she took dance classes and came up with specific dance moves for the Jersey club music. Quickly dissatisfied with the male dominance in the local scene, she started arranging her own parties.
Now, over a decade later, UNiiQU3 is the club queen, juggling a busy release schedule, radio shows on SiriusXM and NTS, and international tours.
UNiiQU3 has deservedly evolved into its global forerunner, bent on reminding the world of Jersey club’s birthplace and its Black cultural history.
Prepare for big build-ups, high BPMs, sharp kicks and a torrent of sickening vocals.
