Listen to Manila Ghafuri, who fights for refugee rights and nuances our perceptions of Afghanistan

At the age of seven, Manila Ghafuri fled with her mother, father, and six siblings from northern Afghanistan, where the Taliban was taking over their city. Since then, as an activist and storyteller drawing from her own experiences, she has put the fate of refugees on the agenda in the media, school classrooms, festivals, and museums. In 2023, she won the Human Rights Award for her long-standing efforts against discrimination of ethnic minorities in Denmark.

Manila Ghafuri is the spokesperson for Rapolitics and co-founder of the charity organization ANaR, which works for women's and single mothers' rights in Afghanistan.
