Energised futuristic pop with flamboyant guitar hooks.

No one knows how the future will look. But right now, many people regard British-Japanese Rina Sawayama as one of the best prospects in pop to grace the top of the charts in coming years.

The audience at Roskilde Festival 2022 witnessed her potential when she blew everyone away at the Arena tent with her grand mix of sparkly hyperpop, pulsating beats, massive choruses and a piercing guitar. Now, she is back with even greater ambitions and the songs from her brand-new album Hold the Girl.

Even though Rina Sawayama’s approach to making pop is experimental and conceptual, her ear for catchy melodies and choruses is well developed. In her musical universe, there are no rules, and she names The Corrs, Paramore, Taylor Swift and Kelly Clarkson as her inspirations for the new album.

In this way, she is reminiscent of Lady Gaga in her heydays, and even Elton John, one of pop’s most eccentric – and adored – personalities, has declared his love for Sawayama.

Rina Sawayama’s return to Roskilde Festival has the potential of being the year’s most potent pop event. Be there or be square!
