With BITOI, the versatile Swedish-Ethiopian musician Cassius Lambert has launched a wild, beautiful and ambitious project that combines experimental soundscapes, otherworldly vocals and poetic bass playing.

The name BITOI stands for Bass Is the Original Instrument and clearly indicates that for Lambert, the bass is a musical wellspring and a crucial foundation. In his hands, however, the bass is also a highly flexible instrument that conjures up beautiful melodies, deep grooves and trance-inducing magic.

The music is deeply rooted in ancient traditions, not least from North Africa. But BITOI's compositions simultaneously reach for the sky and new horizons, carried by three outstanding vocalists from Sweden and Denmark, Alexandra Shabo, Lise Kroner and Anja Tietze Lahrmann. With otherworldly sounds, polyphonic choral passages and lyrics based on phonetic pronunciations of bird sounds, together with Cassius' bass figures, electronic manipulations and field recordings of birds, they create a unique soundscape, meditative and surprising.

Having already impressed at international festivals such as Le Guess Who? and Intonal, and with a debut album planned for 2024, BITOI will undoubtedly create an extraordinary experience at Roskilde Festival.
