Under the pseudonym Slauson Malone 1, Jasper Marsalis explores the intersection of performance art and popular music with an expression that zaps between multiple genre references and moods. Hip-hop beats, soul vocals and pop songs merge with noisy electronic collages and avant-garde compositional music in a form of musical essays that examine aspects of black identity and masculinity through the prism of personal experience.

Slauson Malone 1's musical roots are based in hip-hop, which he has taken to highly experimental corners - often inspired by jazz - in the avant-garde collective Standing on the Corner.

After releasing the acclaimed solo album A Quiet Farwell, 2016-2018 in 2019, he was signed to the influential label Warp, where he released the impressive work EXCELSIOR in 2023. "A masterpiece of American surrealism", The Line of Best Fit called the release, whose experimental and eclectic expression has also garnered superlatives from several other critics.

Now Roskilde Festival can look forward to Slauson Malone 1's surrealist wanderings through American culture and music, which is also a rare live experience. You can witness this yourself when Slauson Malone 1 performs on the Platform stage on both Wednesday and Thursday at the festival.
