Water From Your Eyes sends the thoughts back to a time when the word indie pop didn't so much denote a fashionable sound as a creative space where musical experimentation and idiosyncratic whimsy could flourish within the confines of a pop song.

The duo of Rachel Brown and Nate Amos came together in Chicago in 2016 with the intention of creating a "sad dance band". Since then, they've released a series of quirky and genre-bending releases – including an album of unconventional covers of everything from Eminem to Tears For Fears – showcasing a band with great artistic ingenuity, an anti-capitalist ethos and a deadpan sense of humor.

In 2023, the band signed to the legendary Matador Records, and with the album Everyone's Crushed, they have truly established themselves as a strong name in the alternative music scene. The album has garnered massive critical acclaim for a sound that combines the feel of a good pop song with wild experimentation that harks back to 80s synthpop, Glenn Branca's noise experiments, microtonal compositions, and Neil Young's songwriting.

The results are dizzying, but despite the many references, Water From Your Eyes manages to retain a distinct personality that also shines through in their captivating shows, where audiences are swept away by both danceable beats and wild eruptions of noise. "A band that's exhilarating now and seems like they're just getting started" Stereogum wrote enthusiastically about the duo's concert at the POP Montreal festival in 2023, so there’s a lot to look forward to when they visit Roskilde this summer.
