A film about concrete may not sound exciting – but with John Wilson, anything is possible. Known from How To with John Wilson, he uncovers the absurd in the everyday.
In History of Concrete, he tries to pitch a feel-good documentary about concrete, encountering eccentric people along the way – from gum removers to joggers in Queens. A quirky and funny observational comedy, where even a dinner with Kim Kardashian unexpectedly becomes part of the journey.
The film is screened with English subtitles.
Runtime: 101 min.
The History of Concrete is screened in partnership with the CPH:DOX.
After the film, we will meditate – on concrete. Just across the highway lies Roskilde Festival Højskole in Musicon, a former concrete factory site. With Musicon’s concrete as our starting point, we will collectively create a meditation on stony societies becoming soft like bodies.
Roskilde Festival’s cinema is returning in 2026 after 13 years. During First Days, you can experience both new feature films, documentaries, and special late-night screenings. The Cinema programme is curated by Roskilde Festival and Roskilde Festival Højskole and created in collaboration with CPH:DOX, the European Parliament, The Why Foundation, RoskildeBio.nu, and the Danish National Film School.
