TUESDAY 30 JUNE

Experience a haunting vampire nightmare with a newly composed live score

Young Grey arrives one evening in the village of Courtempierre. He has trouble sleeping and wanders out into the foggy night, where he sees a group of dancing shadows and a sinister elderly woman who seems to rule over them. Suddenly, Grey is drawn into a nightmare in which iron stakes are driven through hearts, ghosts commit murder, and people are suffocated in flour.

Carl Theodor Dreyer is Denmark’s most important director, and through shadows, distinctive camera movements, and striking angles, he creates in Vampyr an atmosphere that is both ominous and supernatural.

The film is his first sound film, but for this screening, the sound will be turned down as the duo Big Fan performs a brand-new score – composed specifically for the film.

Runtime: 75 min

Vampyr is screened in partnership with the Danish National Film School.

Roskilde Festival’s cinema is returning in 2026 after 13 years. During First Days, you can experience both new feature films, documentaries, and special late-night screenings. The Cinema programme is curated by Roskilde Festival and Roskilde Festival Højskole and created in collaboration with CPH:DOX, the European Parliament, The Why Foundation, RoskildeBio.nu, and the Danish National Film School.
