ANNIKA KAHRS

SATURDAY 4 JULY

Experience real love as two singers meet between ideal and reality through song.

  • Saturday 4 July
THIS IS A LOVE SONG, 22:00, Platform

You are invited into an intimate space at this year’s festival, where German artist Annika Kahrs, in the performance THIS IS A LOVE SONG, plays with romantic ideas of love – and all the awkward, vulnerable, and recognisable emotions that come with it.

Two singers – who are also a couple in real life – perform with their own record players and follow precise instructions that create shifting dynamics on stage. Kahrs has created a framework where genuine moments of communication, intimacy, and partnership emerge in contrast to a soundtrack of romantic images of love.

At the same time, the performers gradually move closer to one another — emotionally as well. What begins as two separate vocal performances slowly develop into a portrait of their relationship. From two soloists, the performance transforms into a fragile [ma1.1]duet shaped by tension, negotiation, and attempts to find each other.

Performers: Mette Nadja Hansen & Pierre Chastel.

Annika Kahrs is a German artist exploring the social, political, and communicative power of music. Through performance, video works, and sound installations, music becomes both a link between people and a connection across time. Her works explore how music creates relationships, communication, and shared experiences. Annika Kahrs lives and works in Berlin.

The performance is presented in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art Roskilde.
