When artist Johanne Anastasia Stoffersen invites you to the performance party Creams n’ Dreams at this year’s festival, it unfolds with endless rows of cream cakes and shots.

The party takes place around a large, three-tiered cake stand painted to resemble marble – a false construction serving as the stenographic centrepiece of the performance. Three performers, dressed in white wedding-baroque-club outfits that mirror the cakes, the structure, and the extravagance of the event, circulate it.

Amid the festival chaos, Johanne Anastasia Stoffersen creates a rococo celebration that balances between the decadent and the cloying – reminiscent of 18th-century opulent French court culture fused with contemporary electronic pop references.

Anyone can choose to participate by stepping forward to be served – or stand around the table and watch. A soundtrack sparks the vibrant festivities as the decadent cream orgy takes over.

Johanne Anastasia Stoffersen is a culinary visual artist who uses the meal as a performance, the dining table as a stage, and the guests as co-performers in edible performances. She works with food and historical culinary icons, using materials ranging from ceramics, food, sculpture, film, photography, and text to performance, curation, and catering to elaborate events. Her practice challenges political and social expectations by staging rituals and symbols from the kitchen, where art is literally consumed. She lives and works in Copenhagen.
