It is possible that a portal will open up to the city of Roskilde's rich medieval history when the wandering knights of Cuirass lay down their knapsacks at Roskilde Festival and unfold their musical tales and legends.
The forces of darkness and light clash in tales of pride and greed, heroism and courtly love, woven around medieval-sounding string instruments, flutes and cinematic keyboard tones that let the imagination run wild.
At the heart of Cuirass are the two musicians CCsquele & Joos, who released their self-titled debut album on the Copenhagen underground label Dybdestegte in 2024. The music draws inspiration from the folk tunes of medieval roadside inns, the dancing compositions of the court, and the musical tales of bards. At the same time, the music is influenced by the moods and sounds of both neo-folk and dungeon synth, which help give Cuirass a unique aura.
Live, the two self-proclaimed knights bring in a bunch of other musicians to help them show off their colourful world, and the audience is invited to gather in a tight circle to listen intently to dramatic stories and join in loud sing-alongs with a glass raised in the jolly atmosphere of the medieval inn.
