Ecca VandalAU

Pure rebellious power from genre-defying rising star

Get ready for a massive burst of energy when Ecca Vandal hits Roskilde Festival with her adrenaline-fuelled and eclectic style.

Ecca Vandal was born in South Africa to parents from Sri Lanka, who later took her to Australia, where she grew up. Her cultural background is as diverse as her music is genre-bending. From an early age, she fell in love with the improvisational art of jazz, which she has combined with the anarchic rebellion of punk with devil-may-care energy, just as she juggles references to metal, R&B, hip-hop and much more. She herself has mentioned Mr. Bungle, Björk and Deftones as sources of inspiration, which gives a good indication of an artist who has little time for genre labels and conventions.

Her debut album from 2017 already generated intense interest. "One of the year's brightest debuts," wrote NME, which also compared the young artist to the Beastie Boys' innovative mix of punk and rap, party and rebellion. The album, along with her reputation for fearless live performances, has paved the way for artists as diverse as The Prodigy, Queens of The Stone Age, Idles and Limp Bizkit to invite her on tour. They have done so wisely, because it is virtually impossible not to be swept away by her energy on stage.

This ability has also made Ecca Vandal a stunning festival act, and Denmark should of course not be deprived of the opportunity to experience what a wild performer she is. She has recently released a string of powerful singles that exude electrifying punk energy. This bodes well for an upcoming album, and not least, it testifies to an artist who is in top form for Roskilde Festival.
