With a maelstrom of sound, Morild hits the audience with fierce power, dense atmospheres and sublime beauty. Here, the black metal genre's shredding noise is combined with atmospheric and dreamy layers in music that both strives towards the heavens and dives into the darkest corners of the ocean.
With their debut EP from 2017 and, not least, their debut album Så kom mørket .. from 2019, Morild established themselves as an exceptionally ambitious Danish standard-bearer for the blackgaze genre, which, with international kindred spirits such as Deafheaven and Alcest, had worked to unite black metal, shoegaze and post-rock structures.
However, Morild not only managed to deliver blackgaze with power and compositional weight, they also added their own Nordic melancholy to the genre, drawing on lyrical moods from the majestic nature to which humans are at the mercy of.
The band took six years to follow up on their debut album. However, critics agreed that the new album, Disse fugle får ingen at se, was well worth the wait. In a superlative review, the website heavymetal.dk simply concluded: "There's simply not much else to say other than 'wow'." It's also the feeling of awe that you're left with as an audience member when Morild unfolds their magnificent compositions live. Let yourself be carried away when their dark musical waves wash over Roskilde Festival.
