When Tyler, the Creator praises your music, and Oneohtrix Point Never calls it "the only new music I absolutely swear is next level," you know you're onto something special. And that's certainly the case for American singer-songwriter Marcus Brown with his project Nourished By Time.
The Baltimore-born artist creates music that is at once soulful and subversive, melodically appealing and genre-exploring. The beautifully crafted melodies and warm vocals root the music in soul and R&B, but the soundscape also draws on everything from indie pop and post-punk to references such as Arthur Russell and Daft Punk.
However, it is not only on the musical front that Nourished By Time is impressive. He also writes songs that exude lived experience and intelligently grapple with late modern class society. His relevant songwriting and nuanced productions have earned him high praise from leading music media outlets such as The Line of Best Fit, Pitchfork and The Fader.
The acclaimed debut album Erotic Probiotic 2 (2023) led to a collaboration with Yaeji on the single "Happy" and landed Nourished By Time a signing with XL Recordings. In 2024, the fantastic EP Catching Chickens was released, closely followed by the 2025 album The Passionate Ones, where he combines a clear critique of capitalism with a sustained exploration of love, longing, and human connection. The album has firmly established Nourished By Time as a leading figure within alternative R&B.
There is every reason to check out this sensational act when he visits Roskilde Festival this summer with his live band.
