We have a major change coming up that’s important to know about if you’re planning to stay in a camp at this year’s Roskilde Festival.
In 2026, we’re saying goodbye to two things on the camping site: glass packaging and cheap, disposable “one-use pavilions”.
And by goodbye, we mean banned. No longer allowed. End of story.
Both cause serious problems as waste.
This has consequences not just for the environment, but also for the community and for the clean-up after the party.
Last year, we were left with more than 1,600 tonnes of waste after the festival. That’s far too much.
And especially on the camping sites, we see equipment and packaging left behind, including items that could easily have been used for more than just eight days at a festival.
What you need to know about disposable pavilions
By disposable pavilions, we mean those lightweight, cheap, white, self-assembly pavilions of low quality.
Many of them break and are left behind as waste, because they can’t withstand a week of wind, rain and intensive use.
That’s why this type of pavilion is no longer allowed on the camping site.

- You can still cover up to 9 m² in your camp.
- Durable folding or scissor-style pavilions are still allowed, including ones you bring yourself and take home again.
- If you don’t want to carry a pavilion with you, you can still rent one from the festival. Renting is an option, not a requirement. What matters is that pavilions don’t end up as waste.
In 2025, we collected more than 25 tonnes of glass waste. Some of it is handed in correctly for recycling, but far too much ends up as broken glass on the ground.
This creates a risk of injury and requires extensive manual clean-up before the grass fields can be returned to the landowners in the same condition we received them in.
That’s why glass packaging is no longer allowed on the camping site, and we won’t be selling drinks or food in glass packaging in the camping areas.

- You can still bring food, alcohol, soft drinks and so on, just not in glass packaging.
- Cans, plastic and cartons are still allowed.
- You can dispose of any glass you bring with you in the containers located at the entrances to the camping areas.
Roskilde Festival is an experience we share and create together, around the clock, for an entire week. That also means everyone at the festival shares responsibility for our unique orange community.
When we look out for each other and for the shared framework of the festival, it creates a better experience for everyone, from the first day on the camping site to the final clean-up.
We also know that changes take some getting used to.
But we believe the festival experience will be much better for everyone when we change the things that no longer work in real life.

You probably have a few questions about what these changes mean in practice for you and your camp. Which types of pavilions are allowed, and which are not? Here we’ve gathered the most important answers about pavilions, glass and all the terms, conditions and ground rules of the camping city.
