Some of the most interesting forces from the progressive Nordic folk music scene have come together in the band Diket. The four musicians, who are based in Oslo, are also known from bands such as Benedikt, Hey Gloria and Ævestaden, which could be seen at the Roskilde Festival in 2025.
The band's debut EP Och sen kom vintern was released in 2024 on Supertraditional (Sara Parkman et al.) and received excellent reviews. Diket’s blend of Nordic traditions, contemporary indie sound and experimental approaches has also captured audiences live, where they have performed at by:Larm, toured with Valkyrien Allstars and opened for Irish band Lankum.
One of their Norwegian concerts was praised by The Line of Best Fit, whose reviewer drew comparisons to bands such as Stereolab and Tortoise in Nordic folk music garb. And one can indeed find elements of post-rock in Diket's atmospheres and minimalist grooves, while at the same time they unfold warm and sensual folk music with beautiful vocal harmonies.
Diket are currently working on their debut album, which will be released in the autumn. Before then, we will have the opportunity to experience their innovative, alternative and captivating take on Nordic folk music when they perform at the Roskilde Festival this summer.
