London’s electronic scene is known for constant reinvention and boundary-blurring genre fusion. Still, Djrum stands apart. With a background as a classical pianist and a fiercely uncompromising approach to club music, Djrum – aka Felix Manuel – creates a sound that feels both deeply personal and entirely uncategorisable.
His third and latest album, Under Tangled Silence (2025), stands as a true masterpiece. Created after a period marked by both creative and personal adversity, it emerges as a work built from the ground up. The result was widely acclaimed, with Pitchfork calling it “a balm, a daydream, a reliable portal to a lovelier place, and one of the most dazzling electronic albums in years.”
Djrum (pronounced “drum!”) moves freely between dubstep, techno, jungle and ambient, but just as naturally between piano, improvisation and free-flowing jazz. Hard, intricate rhythms can hit with full force, only to open into floating passages that feel almost weightless. The music constantly operates in the tension between the physical and the dreamlike.
Live, Djrum is something special. Using vinyl, his own instruments and improvisation, he shapes sets that unfold as a continuous movement through shifting states – from meditative immersion to intense rave and back again.
