Amidst dreamy atmospheres, experimental sounds and beautiful melodies, New York-based vocalist and producer James K creates a haunting universe all of her own. A universe that has earned her both critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase since she released her debut EP Rum in 2013. With her masterful album Friend (2025), however, James K has truly established herself as one of the great voices of experimental pop.
The music’s blend of trip-hop-inspired atmospheres, ethereal dream pop and almost New Age-sounding passages led The Guardian to draw comparisons with Caroline Polachek, and, like Polachek, James K also possesses an ability to create original fusions of pop magic and sonic experimentation. “As dazzling as a rabbit pulled out of a hat, and as wily and soft too,” wrote Pitchfork of her music, which comes across as gentle, embracing and captivating all at once.
In 2026, James K followed up the album with the release of Friend Remixes, in which the songs’ beautiful universes engage in dialogue with experimental artists such as Jasss, Drew McDowall and Arushi Jain. James K is, on the whole, known for his fruitful collaborations with a wide range of artists – including names such as Yves Tumor, Mykki Blanco and Moin.
2026 has also seen James K’s first full-scale tour with a full live band, resulting in spellbinding performances at festivals such as Way Out West and End Of The Road, as well as sold-out shows at venues including The Barbican in London. This summer, fans will finally be able to experience her dreamy and imaginative songs unfold on Danish soil when she brings her band to the Roskilde Festival.
