Swedish stoner doom giants make their Roskilde Festival debut with monumental riffs and newfound melancholy

Since the release of their debut album Empress Rising in 2014, Monolord have been a central force on the modern stoner doom scene. Led by the charismatic Thomas V. Jäger, the Gothenburg trio have refined a sound built on massive riffs, rolling grooves, fuzz and melodic darkness across albums such as Vænir, Rust and No Comfort.

On Monolord’s sixth and latest album, Neverending, released in May, a more personal and melancholic side of the band comes clearly into focus. The songs revolve around loss, longing and human experience, without sacrificing the towering weight that has made Monolord one of the genre’s defining names.

The monumental doom riffs remain the backbone of Neverending, but Monolord surround them with more prominent melodies, psychedelic atmospheres and traces of classic hard rock. The result is music that moves between slow-burning builds, drifting passages and explosive outbursts.

Monolord have toured extensively across the globe and made their mark at festivals such as Hellfest, Desertfest, Psycho Las Vegas and Roadburn. Now, for the first time, you can experience the Swedish stoner doom giants at Roskilde Festival, where massive grooves, towering amplifiers and dark melancholy come together in a truly overwhelming live experience.
