Inspiration for themes

Each year, Roskilde Festival gathers more than 130,000 people, all of whom consume resources and impact the environment — as we do ourselves during the festival’s construction. We all share a responsibility to care for the climate, protect nature, and preserve biodiversity locally and globally. We especially address this by reducing our resource consumption and prioritising responsible sourcing. We apply circular principles to prevent resource waste by minimising waste generation and ensuring more and better recycling. Join our sustainability team as they explain what this means when we build Denmark's fourth-largest city, and take a tour to see examples around the festival site.

Roskilde Festival has a special responsibility to support youth and amplify young voices. With our scale comes an obligation and the potential to foster awareness, engagement, and change, which must be exercised responsibly. We are committed to shaping perspectives among young people on contemporary issues such as climate and sexuality, and we support youth initiatives throughout the year with our donations. Meet our social team to learn how this influences our activities and the layout of the festival site.

For us, artistic sustainability means driving change and development in the cultural sphere while promoting equal access to both creating and experiencing art.
Art provides a lens through which we can see what might otherwise go unnoticed. We have a role in strengthening art’s place in society, actively supporting emerging artists and making the festival a platform for new artistic encounters, formats, and experiments. Meet our art team to hear more about our artistic programme, and explore the festival site to experience it firsthand.
